Common Problems
With Dog Behaviour

There are almost as many common problems with dog behaviour as there dogs themselves. The following problems are just a few of the most common.

Click here if you have any training tips, or advice on obedience problems you would like to share and be shown on this site. It doesn't matter if it is a whole training method or just a small tip you have picked up. Anything that has helped YOUR dog may help someone elses.

Effective methods to stop incorrect behaviour are one thing; but they should also be used with something positive.

The best way to stop inappropriate behaviour is to replace it with actions that are good, positive and ultimately will get your dog the treat

For instance if your dog is making a nuisance of himself by constantly jumping up on your or your friends, obviously it’s important that he stops this.

The following methods will show you how to stop this. But you should replace this bad behaviour with some simple, positive and good behaviour patterns that he knows how to do; like siting sitting or laying down for you for example. (he can’t jump up if he’s sitting or laying down!)

..and you have taught him well how to do this now; haven’t you!!!)

And don’t forget that he can then be rewarded for his good behaviour.

Methods for dealing with bad behaviour work exceptionally well, however, you must allow your dog time to change. It won’t happen overnight, but with patience, practice and persistence you will help your dog to change that behaviour.

Very often, we don’t get dogs as puppies; they come into our lives at any age. It can be difficult (certainly not impossible) to change their bad habits. Dogs revert to what they have learned previously; good or bad.

Remember never reinforce bad behaviour and always reward for good.

But I can’t stress enough, that the best way to avoid problem behaviour is to train and educate your dog well from an early age. You will make life so much easier for yourself and your dog by training him to avoid bad behaviour before it starts.

…patience, practice and persistence.

Ok, let’s look at some common problems and how to solve them…
